Green Party of Canada/Parti Vert du Canada Welcomes Progressives
(Ottawa)-- The elimination of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada has left many Canadians without a political home, and the Green Party of Canada (GPC) has issued an invitation to supporters of the now defunct PC Party to consider joining the Greens.
"For anyone concerned about our quality of life, clean air, clean water, progressive social policy and fiscal responsibility, the Green Party of Canada is the place to be," said GPC Leader Jim Harris. "We understand the need for both collective social responsibility and personal responsibility."
Jim Harris initially was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. He joined in the early 1980s because of continued deficit financing by the Liberal government. But in the mid 1980s he learned a species was becoming extinct every minute and realized the ecological debt was not forgivable, so became an ecological conservative.
Green Party members come from all of the traditional parties. Former PCs, Liberals and New Democrats have come together to promote the values of ecological wisdom, social justice, participatory democracy, non-violence, sustainability, and respect for diversity.
Green Parties are organized in over 100 countries, have elected members of parliament in more than 30 countries and are in government in 7 countries. The Green Party of Canada is part of the largest global political movement.
